Income Report – March & April 2014

Income Report – March & April 2014

Sorry for yet another delay in this month’s income report.. The entire visual editor within my WordPress backend just stopped working for a few days – Finally after working with my hosting company I’ve got it back working now. I decided to do March and April together so I can catch up with the income reports… It was especially annoying as I missed Matt’s Report Roundup for this month as well! :( Hopefully I’ll be back in (and pushing for the top spots) again this month.

March –

This month has been pretty good, but as I’ve been making a ton of changes to Godlike Marketing, it’s been pretty slow in terms of content and promoting the blog. April looks set to be even slower with my birthday and a ton of trips coming around! Hopefully May will be the boost of work and writing to throttle the blog back into content-overdrive (Though I am in Canada for the first 2 weeks of May, eek)

What’s Been Happening?

I actually put out quite a bit of content in March, as well as launching a cool new project with a few other guys!

Right at the start of the month I put together Marketing Reviews – I’ll still be adding some more reviews to it soon, but there’s already a few up there to check out!

Then I went on to put out a BIG post for all the Musicians out there on How to Market your Music Online, along with this a gigantic post on Growth Hacking over on my Technology blog. I also put together a few growth hacking quick wins for all the social media marketers.

Later on in the month, Ann Smarty’s My Blog Guest got penalized and I gave the real answer as to why it was penalized.

Moz decided to decline my Online Marketing Strategy post, though shout out to Cyrus Shepard who gave me a ton of feedback and we had a pretty cool email conversation!

I was also featured in the Daily Dot due to me nearly loosing my domain.

I also got into a pretty heated debate another Charles based SEO guy, and to finish of March released my slidedeck on how I’d earned over 6 figures before I was even 18. As a mini-run up, to my BIG post that is coming out on the blog’s one year birthday! And as a pre-jitters 18th birthday for myself.

My third guest post for Matthew Woodward also went live on how to steal your competitors customers.

InsideIM Launched –

With the circle jerk of Inbound (not even my own words) getting even more annoying for any kind of submissions to be taken seriously, myself and a band of other merry grey hat IM’ers decided to put together InsideIM.

Statistics –

march analytics

Unique Visitors: 7,035 / 7,534 (6% decrease)

Visits: 11,937 / 14,387 (17% decrease)

Pageviews: 26,172 / 32,155 (18% decrease)

A slight drop this month in uniques and a pretty big drop in visits and pageviews, though I did have a problem for a few days with a Shortcodes plugin not allowing the content to be seen, which means pageviews will of dropped.

march referrals

My organic traffic has steadied out this month, after it has grown by a LOT since the start of the year.

Matt’s blog is still sitting pretty strong in terms of referrals and as my E-Commerce post has been in the top 10 content sources for traffic on his blog since launch, I expect to still be getting even more great traffic flowing through over the next few months!

My Facebook campaign is still going strong, even though I’ve lowered my budget by quite a lot and am only targeting Pages likes.

My micro-sites I’ve been creating have also been passing over quite a bit of traffic, with the Adsense Empire diary being completed and it still getting good traffic each month.

Reddit and Inbound have also been passing through good traffic – Even though I haven’t been using either for a few months now. Though I have been running a few Micro Adsense sites and making good money from Adsense with them. Expect a tutorial soon on these sites!

I haven’t really done much OnPage work this month except changing around some of the Menus and adding more pages to the FAQ area, which adds even more pages for Google to index –

Earnings –

March has been a fairly good month, though it’s been stacked with me pushing client sales on Godlike Marketing to try and build my aim of a 1 million pound revenue for the company by the end of the year! (Still got quite a way to go)

Affiliate Sales –

I’ve been pretty lack luster with my affiliate work this month, and April doesn’t look like it’s going to be any better! Maybe May I can bring out some more cool stuff.

SEO Traffic Hacks – $375.50 – Kicked into overdrive since my Parasite SEO Presentation.

ThemeForest – $690 – My Parasite’s dropped off quite a bit, but I’m still doing ok from the posts and the parasites still convert well.

Ahrefs -$80 – Staying pretty steady, same as last months earnings.

Link Emperor – $1,125 – I now have 3 affiliate accounts with LE, as it’s hard to monitor the specifics when doing different campaigns with it, so I split them up in November and now have separate accounts for each affiliate campaign I’m running. Same as last month’s earnings, I said I’d try to ramp up sales but this month has been more about the content!

iWriter – $28 – Grown a tiny bit from last month, has fallen quite a bit from last year but the demand has also fallen for the site itself as the quality of content seems to be getting a lot worst than from when I originally did the tutorial.

I decided to remove Backlink Beast as it’s just a waste of time trying to promote it right now.

Tube Assist – 11 Subscriptions @ $5/Month = $55 – Fallen by a mere 1 subscriber this month, it’s still a cracking tool!

Consultancy/SEO Work –

My super network sales have grown from last month, last month I re-added the public blog network back to the main menu and have gotten a lot more enquiries this month about it. Hopefully those enquiries will pas into sales in April.

Super Network – £919 / $1,550

Course – £163 / $275

As a pre-warning, now that I have a team behind Godlike and I don’t do much (if any) of the client work any more, I only take on average around a 20% revenue cut per client as opposed to the much higher percentages I was taking when doing all the work myself. I do still however handle 2 clients to myself which I take the full revenue from.

SEO Work: £4,035 / $6,804 – As you can see, it’s a slight drop from the other months but we have taken on a LOT of new clients in the March and aiming to take on even more in April.

Total Earnings This Month: £6512 / $10,982.5

This months overall earnings have fallen by a bit, but that comes with the territory of my agency growing and me investing into getting new clients.

I’ve stopped putting my costs into the post as PayPal still hasn’t fixed my archiving issue – As well as putting a £2,000 rolling hold on my PayPal balance, which is rather annoying to say the least!

I’ll be doing a BIG conclusion at the end of April to include both Months.

April –

Unfortunately in April I dislocated my collar bone which forced me to miss Snowbombing and also was doing a LOAD of travelling, so I wasn’t up-to scratch with my normal working and writing routine.

Towards the end of April my analytics plugin messed up and so I lost about 7-10 days of data! Which means my stats are severely declined, with obvious reason though –

analytics drop

Luckily I’ve fixed it at the beginning of May, so May’s report should be good to go!

What’s Been Happening?

To kick April of with a bang, I went with an April Fools which announced I was joining the Webspam Team. Surprisingly, a LOT of people thought it was real (even my own Dad phoned me asking if I was moving to Cali) and I got quite a few hate emails/replies from people saying I was selling out… I decided not to reply and wait for it to kick in that it was all a joke, hehe.

With the success of my last roundup, I also put together another few sneaky link building tips which went down really well again! I’m looking to do one of these kind of roundups every few months now as they seem to do very well!

I also started doing a ton more blog posts on my personal blog – Charles Floate. I started of April on my personal blog, by going into a bit of detail on what dating was like, especially as an SEO Geek! I also looked at the past months of running my blog, and how it’s changed my life as well as a look at my journey into becoming the God of SEO! I’m aiming to make my personal blog as good as this blog with a load of big posts on stuff I personally like writing about.

I also found my new favourite song of all time –

I may have to do another #SEOMusic post pretty soon! ^.^

I Was Supposed to Attend SnowBombing –

Unfortunately, the day before I was to get on my flight.. I slipped over and dislocated my collar bone causing my left shoulder to swell up pretty damn badly! Hopefully next year I’ll be able to attend with no shoulder injury related incidents.

Head Down to BrightonSEO –

I attended BrightonSEO with Evan and Will from the Godlike Marketing team. Got to see a ton of cool talks, and some Cutts based talks that had me yawning (quite literally, I’d been up since 5am that day…)

I also got to compete vs Brian Dean aka Backlinko in a bike race.. Putting black hat and white hat to the real test!

I also got to meet up with Krystian Szastok, Modestos Siotos and Tony Dimmock – Who also did an awesome talk on sales in the SEO industry.

My Birthday –

I finally crossed the threshold into adulthood.. I turned 18 this month and had a rather mental party as well. I’d planned to go out on the Saturday night (day after my birthday) with all my mates. Just for a day.. We got 2 hotel rooms, a lot of alcohol and hit the town, before a few of us passed out and we ended up staying out for 4 days in which I had my phone stolen from the hotel room, broke my debit card, lost my driving license and spent a small fortune. All in all, was a pretty good weekend. I also got some pretty cool presents! I bought myself a pair of Jimmy Choo Hightops –

Jimmy Choo Hightops

My Ma also bought me an awesome Paul Smith laptop/messenger bag, as I had a laptop bag that was pretty crap and putting a heavy ass alienware in it tends to make your wrists ache after about 5 minutes..

Along with getting me a TONNNN of Krispy Kreme doughnuts! – Including a Krispy Kreme cake, which was amazing as it sounds.

Earnings –

April was fairly slow, I spent most of it planning stuffs for my birthday and going out with mates as the weather was so awesome in the UK – I did however to get in a bit more client work though the affiliate side of things were pretty down due to me not really investing all that much time into publishing content for the blog.

Affiliate Sales –

I didn’t actually do any promotion of my content this month and I only managed to put out 2 posts, so it’s dropped by quite a bit!

SEO Traffic Hacks – $250 – Dropped a bit from the previous month, but that’s probably due to the Parasite talk I did wearing off.

ThemeForest – $375 – Didn’t have time to put up any new parasite pages this month, so I just let the current ones steadily grow.. Still doing ok and the E-Commerce post I did for Matthew Woodward still brings in some affiliate revenue.

Ahrefs -$40 – Bit of a drop, but again.. I didn’t really promote the blog much this month.

Link Emperor – $825 – I now have 3 affiliate accounts with LE, as it’s hard to monitor the specifics when doing different campaigns with it, so I split them up in November and now have separate accounts for each affiliate campaign I’m running. Another slight drop, hopefully will pick up soon when I get chance to work on some more tutorials/guides.

iWriter – $32 – Grown a tiny bit from last month, has fallen quite a bit from last year but the demand has also fallen for the site itself as the quality of content seems to be getting a lot worst than from when I originally did the tutorial.

I decided to remove Backlink Beast as it’s just a waste of time trying to promote it right now.

Tube Assist – 14 Subscriptions @ $5/Month = $70 – Grown a bit more this month, maybe due to the YouTube tutorials I made a few months ago, becoming a bit more popular again.

Consultancy/SEO Work –

My super network sales have grown from last month, last month I re-added the public blog network back to the main menu and have gotten a lot more enquiries this month about it. Hopefully those enquiries will pas into sales in April.

Super Network – £1,068 / $1,800

Course – £150 / $250

As a pre-warning, now that I have a team behind Godlike and I don’t do much (if any) of the client work any more, I only take on average around a 20% revenue cut per client as opposed to the much higher percentages I was taking when doing all the work myself. I do still however handle 2 clients to myself which I take the full revenue from.

SEO Work: £4,950 / $8,339 – As you can see, it’s a slight drop from the other months but we have taken on a LOT of new clients in the March and aiming to take on even more in April.

Total Earnings This Month: £7,333 / $12,356

This months earnings have risen by quite a lot! I aim to do some more traditional marketing tactics for Godlike Marketing in April and try and flood even more sales/clients through to the company. I may even do a post on the effects I get from offline marketing.

May, Will I Return?!

In May I’m going to be in Montreal and New York for 2 weeks, so unfortunately I may be skipping my usual routine and tourisiting (totally a real word) the 2 awesome cities with my (new, hehe) girlfriend, Dani.

I will however be getting back to work as soon as possible and trying to fire out as many posts through April as possible! Especially as I’m staying just a few minutes from the Montreal beach and the weather is supposed to be good for when I go! I’ll definitely be chucking in some pictures of my trip in next months Income Report!
